Is the career interest assessment the same as a personality test?
No. Our assessment will group an individual into a category such as being social or being business oriented, etc. In a sense, some people could consider this part of their personality – however – those categories and associated career areas are arrived at by knowing the persons interests, likes / dislikes, preferences and values as they relate to the real life working world.
Will the assessment tell me exactly what career to choose?
No. There is nothing that exists that will tell anyone exactly what to do. If there was, then everyone would be doing it. The assessment offers career area and occupational suggestions, all based on how an individual responded to the questionnaires. The educational training and majors are mapped to these suggested career areas and occupations. If an individual does not respond to the questionnaires honestly, then the assessment results will be skewed. Once assessment results are provided, there is still individual thinking and sole searching to do on what feels right.
My son / daughter is having trouble deciding what to choose as a college major. How does your career service help?
“What major do I choose” is the million dollar college planning question. This is the question that we hear most often from college bound high school students.
Our service will suggest college majors that map to specific career occupations which are highlighted from taking the assessment. By knowing the students Interests, Abilities and Work-Values, it is possible to identify the best majors to consider as it relates to the career areas and occupations that have been revealed and suggested as the best fit for the student. .
Our high school gives career tests. How is yours different?
First, the assessment we provide is focused on three very important aspects of an individual - Interests, Abilities and Work-Values. These are measured based on three separate questionnaires and the results are combined together to identify the best career areas that match the overall person. Most assessments do not combine these three aspects to reveal this overall picture – you usually get only one aspect of this in an assessment.
Second, the result of our assessment provides information about specific occupations within identified career areas, explains the education level required to work in a specific occupation, and maps the required education to a college major or technical training certification. There’s more – the results also provide schools / colleges that offer the majors, occupation salary ranges, job descriptions and related occupations.
Most guidance departments are overloaded with tasks and responsibilities. They are busy coordinating class schedules, communicating college application / admission deadlines, etc., and do not have the time required to give each individual student the level of attention that our service provides.
